This year, Dawod who is our Research and Development Manager at WeLiterate was sponsored to join the Emergent Future:
Reimagining Our World Together event. The event took place in Panchgani India, inone of the Initiatives of Change’s (IofC) education centres in the Asia Plateau. The event lasted five days and guests from different parts of the globe and speakers from different backgrounds to make sense of
our ever-increasing complex world.
We heard from panel discussions and keynote speakers, ample spaces for discourse, and collective and personal reflection and envision directions for the future. As well as listening to talented
musicians and enjoying the historical space we occupied.
Day One: Arrival
After gathering with IoFC representatives at Mumbai airport, we embarked on a five-hour journey to Panchgani. Welcomed warmly upon arrival, we joined fellow attendees for the opening ceremony and dinner.
Day Two: Reality
We engaged in introductory activities, received event briefings, and explored the impressive centre, marvelling at its architecture and diverse art reflecting global inclusion values. Later joined a smaller group to visit Strawberry farms, a Fudge factory, Malas, a beverage brand and Kate’s view.
Day Three: Hope
We started our morning connecting with nature in silence. We then listen to stories of hope in villages
and cities. Later in the afternoon, we listen to another group of people, their struggles and inner
changes. One of the outstanding speakers was Imad, A Palestinian film-maker, A documentary award winner and A doctrine in media and sociology whose narrative underscored the power of storytelling.
Day Four: Faith
After breakfast, we met at the spiritual prayer room space that had copies of religious text and decorations. We also listened to faith members including Rabbi Jeff whom I shared a lot in common with despite our differences in religion and race. I also had the chance to learn more about other religions that
originated in India like Buddhism and Hindu.
Day five: Closing
As the conference concluded, we shared insights and charted paths forward, aligning with WeLiterate’s mission of fostering collaboration among diverse stakeholders. Attending this event enabled me, as the Research and Development Manager, to expand my network and knowledge, contributing to WeLiterate’s pursuit of impactful solutions.
